City putting parking lot up for auction

The City of Santa Barbara is putting the parking lot of the former Milpas Street post office up for sale in a sealed-bid auction to be held on July 19.
Situated across from the Milpas Shopping Center, the 10,890-square-foot lot is zoned for both residential and commercial use. But the property’s listing agent, Christos Celmayster of Hayes Commercial Group, said that, given the surrounding area, it “would make better sense as commercial.”

The minimum starting bid for the 20 South Milpas property is $500,000. People can drop off their sealed bids at the Hayes office at 222 East Carrillo #101 before 5 p.m. on July 18. On July 19 at 10 a.m. at the City Purchasing Office, the submitted offers will be read aloud. After that, those in attendance who can provide proof of funds and are in possession of a $25,000 cashier’s check can outbid the announced offers.
